German A-Level at Bristol Brunel Academy

Course description

Speak German almost fluently. Learn more about German speaking countries through film and project work. Master more complex grammar and boost your future employment prospects.

Course content

Year 1
  • F711: German speaking. Discuss a topic of your choice and complete a role-play card. Unit is worth 25% of AS grade.
  • F712: German listening, reading and writing. Complete an exam paper (2 ½ hours long) at the end of the year assessing listening and reading comprehension and written language skills. Unit is worth 75% of AS grade.
Year 2
  • F713: German speaking. Present a topic of your choice and discuss a stimulus card on one of the topics studied during the course. Unit is worth 25% of A2 grade. 
  • F714: German listening, reading and writing. Complete an exam paper at the end of the year (2 hours 45mins long) assessing listening and reading comprehension and written language skills.

 

Entry requirements

B grade in GCSE German

Minimum Academic Standard for Progression into Y13

Entry into Y13 is not automatic in CLF Post 16.

The majority of students will continue into Y13 dependent on the entry criteria for courses as outlined below:

For A levels, all students must attain a minimum academic standard of passing all subjects with at least two D grades for successful progression in to Y13.

Supportive statements from subject teachers confirming suitability for continued study at A level. Following receipt of AS results, students who have met the entry requirements will be offered a place in Y13.

Students who do not meet the entry requirements into Y13 will be given guidance about a change of study programme and relevant courses available. They will not be allowed to re-sit the same core learning aims (i.e. subjects) as they did in Y12.

Assessment

2 externally marked exams at the end of each year.

Future opportunities

Progression

University degree in German. If you are looking for an apprenticeship in Engineering, German will be a useful language to have. German is an advantageous language to have if you would like to work a ski-season whilst travelling.

Careers

Engineering; pharmaceuticals; manufacturing; If you are interested in snow sports, German is a good language to have for the winter tourism industry.
