Mathematics A level at Sutton Community Academy

Course description

Maths plays a significant role in careers in medicine, engineering, economics and the social sciences. Our everyday lives encounter mathematical questions and problems; from calculating how much a 15% discount is to understanding the chances of rain from a weather forecast – you can’t get away from maths!

Course content

There are four core modules which will cover pure mathematics. You will also study statistics with data analysis and mechanics will be covered in the second year.

Entry requirements

A grade B or above at GCSE would be a distinct advantage.

Future opportunities

The Mathematics A Level can lead to work in so many well paid professions such as a doctor, architect, accountant, mechanical, civil or electrical engineer, climatologist, statistician, analyst, financial advisor, risk analyst or game programmer to name a few.
You can also pursue further study in these fields on business and economics degree courses. An A Level in Mathematics is highly regarded by both universities and potential employers.

Further information

The Mathematics A Level will combine well with any of the science subjects as well as ICT, Statistics and Economics.
