What does the A Level course involve?
During this two year course, students must complete six modules (three modules in year 12 and three modules in year 13).
Four of the modules must be Pure Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Sequences/ Series, Logarithms, Vectors, Calculus and Proof.
The other two are Application Modules: Statistics: Handling Data, Probability and Mathematical Modelling
Mechanics: Maths applied to Physics, Kinematics, Equations of Motion, Forces and Vectors.
Pathway 1: 4 A levels
• 5 A* to C Grades in GCSEs, including Maths and English, and meeting any subject specific requirements (see below)
Pathway 2: A combination of A levels and Level 3 Vocational Courses
• 5 A*to C Grades (Merits in BTEC and Vocational Courses) and meeting any subject specific requirements (see below)
Where could this lead?
This course is for you if you want to attend University to study courses which require a strong mathematical background, for example: science, engineering, architecture, law, medicine, economics, computing, etc.
It is also for you if you just love Maths! Mathematics is a well sought after qualification and an A Level in Mathematics will open many doors for you.
Mathematics graduates earn up to 10% more than other graduates! Assessment Each module is assessed by a written paper.
Each written paper lasts for 1 hour 30 mins.
The Core 1 paper is a non-calculator assessment, though all other exams allow the use of a calculator.
Each module contributes equally towards the overall grade.
