Course content

This Level 2 course covers the basics of agricultural production.  To obtain the full Diploma the modules delivered are Livestock production, Business management, Estate skills, Machinery operations, Grassland production and Forage crops.

This course involves an intensive 6 week block of Industry Experience.

The 3 day full time course runs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday which makes up the Qualification.

There is an additional day for the level 2 students selected for the PTA (Pathways to Apprentiship) programme. This will be a Thursday.

Candidates upon interview may be offered a Pathways to Apprenticeship Programme (PtA) subject to their practical ability and existing qualifications

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required. Relevant agricultural experience would be an advantage. Entry is subject to interview.


The course is continuously assessed through assignments, worksheets and practical skills assessment.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the course will qualify students to progress to other further education courses such as a Certificate/ Subsidiary/ Extended Diploma in Agriculture at level 3. The course gives comprehensive practical training for those who wish to enter practical farming.
