BTEC Subsidiary Diploma In Sport at Teesdale School

Course description

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sport provides students with an understanding of the essential skills needed when looking to build a career in the sports sector. This qualification will give an insight into the various different occupational routes possible within the sector, plus help progression in existing employment (e.g. Coaching), or move on to further study.

The course can be adapted to meet abilities and interests. It consists of 3 compulsory units and 3 optional units that can be chosen by the student and agreed with the tutor. The structure of the course allows focus on the areas students are most interested in, such as Sports Coaching, Fitness Training or Outdoor Activities.

With this qualification it is possible to progress straight into employment and there are a wide variety of prospective careers that may be explored. It is the equivalent of one A Level which would enable a students to continue into further education if they chose to do so as the BTEC does give successful candidates UCAS points for university applications.

It will take two years to complete the full course, however it must be noted that after one year, there is the equivalent of an AS level awarded.
