Product Design A Level at Gordano School

Course description

This creative and thought-provoking course gives students the practical skills, theoretical
knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers; especially those in the creative industries. Students investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing products of their choice.

Course content

Paper 1&2: Written paper (each worth 25% of A Level)
These papers are based primarily on technical knowledge and design and making principles.
Non - Exam Assessment Coursework (50% of A Level)
Until February
Candidates submit evidence of a single design and manufacturing task. This project
develops students’ skills further allowing them to explore new techniques and materials. This is a 45 hour design and make task.

Entry requirements

Minimum grade C in GCSE Electronics, Resistant Materials, Product Design or Graphic Products. Evidence of high levels of commitment and teacher recommendation are required.

Future opportunities

A level Product Design: 3D design; allows candidates to progress to higher levels of design and Higher Education courses with more specific career paths
Studying Product Design can lead to many career opportunities including Product Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, Furniture design, Interior design,
Graphic design and their associated industries.
