The programme covers a wide area of study in music with a focus on four units of work. These include composing music, understanding how the industry works as well as performing to a high standard in both group and solo work.
Prepare yourself for studying the following aspects of music:
• A variety of musical genres, not just the ones you are used to performing in now
• Performing as a soloist and as a member of a group
• Musical theory – reading music and understanding key words. Try these – chords, sharps, flats, naturals, key signatures, time signatures, melody, harmony, note values, treble and bass clef
• Composing your own music in a variety of styles and instruments
For all BTEC courses students must have achieved five A*-C at GCSE OR Equivalent including a C or above in GCSE English or Maths.
