Course description

Have you always wanted to pursue a career in the Beauty Therapy industry? Are you excited about giving excellent customer service to your clients and being professionally trained in a whole range of beauty therapy treatments? This course will give you a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.

Course content

This qualification will provide you with the requisite knowledge, understanding and skills to work competently as a beauty therapist.

You will be specialising in health and safety, client care and communication, learning skills to promote additional services or products to clients, providing manicures, pedicures, facial skin care, eye treatments, waxing and the application of make-up. You will also have the opportunity to gain skills in reception duties and work experience.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 6 points including 2 GCSEs at grade D or above, one of which must be English. Equivalent qualifications in a relevant discipline will be accepted with GCSE English at grade D or above.


Level 1 Beauty Therapy - Progression students following successfully achieving a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy you will be required to attend a trade test. The trade test will comprise of a practical skills test, written paper, a presentation and interview. Attending this process will be mandatory.


You will produce a portfolio of work at the end of the year (work will be on-going from the start of the year).

You will be assessed in various ways throughout the course. For example;

  • Orally
  • Written papers and assignments
  • Practical assessments
  • Functional Skills are assessed by on-line exams and you will be given guidance and support to achieve these.
