Drama GCSE at Kingsthorpe College

Course description

GCSE drama gives you an opportunity to create original pieces of drama on a variety of different themes as well as looking at plays written by other people.

Course content

The course includes the following:

and elements of Drama
You will develop your Drama skills and learn new ones.

You will spend time exploring a particular theme and produce a piece of Drama developed from this.

Script Work
You will explore a play script in detail and produce a piece of Drama developed from it.

You will perform in a group a piece of Drama which lasts between 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the group.

Some Year 9 students have not experienced a great deal of Drama but don't worry. If you approach the course wanting to learn new skills and are prepared to work hard with other students this is a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. However, you must be prepared to perform in front of an audience.


75% of the course is practical and 25% involves written coursework based on the practical work done during the two years.

Unit 1

20% - practical

10% - written evidence

Unit 2

15% - practical

5% - written evidence

10% - evaluation of live theatre

Unit 3

40% - live performance
