Wood Occupations (Carpentry & Joinery) NVQ Level 3 - Advanced Apprenticeship at Training and Recruitment Partnership Limited
A carpenter is involved in constructing, erecting and repairing buildings and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, steel and other materials.
Your work will vary according to the type of job and can include residential, commercial, industrial and other construction or maintenance.
A carpenter needs to have:
- Manual dexterity and a good sense of balance
- Strength and stamina to work with heavy tools and materials
- An ability to work at heights
- A desire to do a precise and thorough job
There are a number of routes for you to progress within this apprenticeship programme.
You will normally work through mandatory units, this is the work you must do and optional units tailored to suit your job.
In addition to the practical tasks of the apprenticeship you will also need to complete a technical theory element. This covers your knowledge and understanding of your job role and the industry you are working in.
You may also need to study functional skills in:
- Information Communication Technology (ICT)

To study for this apprenticeship programme you should have an interest in developing your skills and have a reasonable standard in Maths, English and ICT.
You will need to be employed within the industry and your apprenticeship will need to match the requirements needs of your job role.
Your knowledge and skills will be assessed against a set of performance standards. These standards are called learning outcomes. Your assessor will guide you through the programme and help you to gather evidence and develop your skills to assist you to prove your competency within your job role.
From time to time you may need to visit either a college or test centre to complete the theory and other specialist training elements of your apprenticeship programme.
