Hospitality: Hospitality Services Intermediate Apprenticeship at Croydon College

Course description

This Apprenticeship will equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide a great service to customers in hotels, bars, pubs or clubs. The course will suit a person who is passionate about learning new techniques and improving their skills.

This Apprenticeship covers the following areas: housekeeping, kitchen, front of house, reception or the bar and you’ll be able to choose the area which suits your job description, needs and circumstances.

Some of the topics covered on the Apprenticeship include:

  • Maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Giving customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Working effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Providing a counter service

On successful completion of the programme, you will have a recognised and respected qualification which includes an NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality Services and Functional Skills in English and maths at Level 1.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.

Course content

This Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hospitality Services will give you the chance to learn new skills and gain a top level qualification, while continuing to earn a living.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D-G, one being English or maths, or a Level 1 related qualification.

English and maths assessed at Entry Level 3 or above.


Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods, including observation in the workplace, student and witness statements, on-line multiple choice questions and discussions.

Future opportunities

Former apprentices have progressed on to Advanced Apprenticeships and gone on to work as hospitality specialists in various organisations and companies including Fulham Football Club, Denbies Wine Estate, Sutton High School and King Edward VII Hospital.
