IT Technical Support BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at Wilberforce College

Course description

This Subsidiary Diploma is a course that is ideal if you are interested in pursuing IT Support as part of your career but would like to study the subject alongside another course. This course will enable you to discover the principles of supporting IT systems in the workplace.You will also learn about computer systems how these are used to communicate and how information travels across these systems and around the world. Lessons will take place in our well equipped computer labs and you will experience using the college's up-to-date software and hardware as a key part of your learning. Following the course you could progress to university to study a computing related degree or explore going into a wide range of professions such as IT Technician or IT support personnel. This course is equivalent to one A Level and you can mix and match it with any other subjects.

Year One Units:

  • Communication and employability skills
  • Computer Systems
  • IT Technical Support

Year Two Units:

  • Computer Networks
  • IT Systems, Troubleshooting and Repair
  • Installing and Upgrading Software

Entry requirements

4 A* - C grades at GCSE or equivalent in 3 or more subjects including a minimum of a grade D in GCSE English Language.


Through continual assessment, some assessed with coursework and some with exams (you must pass every unit to pass the course). Units are marked at pass, merit or distinction and are accumulated to gve the final grade.
