Chemistry A level at Edgbarrow School

Course description

This OCR Salters B course provides lively and interesting ways of showing how Chemistry is used in the world and what chemists do.  It brings out the creative, logical and analytic skills of students who want to understand more of the chemical principles which underpin many of the latest developments in chemistry and in our everyday experience.
The course fosters a mixture of concrete and abstract styles of learning to help students access key chemical ideas.  In addition a high degree of laboratory work and modelling takes place to develop investigative skills and to give a more hands-on approach to the subject.  Activities involving data analysis, group exercises and use of ICT occur so that students can develop their application of Chemistry more successfully.
This subject falls under the Governmental curriculum changes for 2015.  As a result, currently, it is our intention to no longer offer an AS Level qualification in this subject;  students can only study the linear A-Level course which will have final exams at the end of Year 13 only.

Entry requirements

GCSE A grade for triple or  additional Science. Candidates predicted a grade B in Science will be considered following a consultation with the Head of Department.

Future opportunities
