Health and Social Care (BTEC Level 1) at New College Swindon

Course description

This is a broad course designed to develop skills useful in working with and caring for people.

As far as possible your study will be based on real, practical situations and your assignment work will be linked to work experience opportunities.

Course content

You will study a variety of units, including:

  • Introduction to the Caring Sectors
  • Creative Activities for Children
  • Communication with Adults and Children in Health & Social Care
  • Managing money matters
  • Career Progression
  • Working in a team

Entry requirements

You should have a desire to work with people and an interest in caring for others.  You will come into contact with children and vulnerable people during this course.  To ensure their safety and yours you must have a favourable DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before starting.


You will be assessed through assignment work. (100% Assessment)

Future opportunities

The BTEC Certificate/Extended Certificate/Diploma is a nationally-recognised qualification at Level 1.

Once you complete the Certificate, you will progress to the Extended Certificate and Diploma in Exploring the Caring Sectors.

You may choose to go into employment.

This course could help you find a job in a variety of caring organisations, such as day-care centres and residential homes for children, the elderly and people with special needs.
