Spanish AS/A Level at The Ripley Academy

Course description

AS – Unit 1: Youth culture and concerns; the world around us; Education and employment; Lifestyle, health and fitness.

A Level – Unit 1: Environmental issues. Unit 2: Social and political issues. Unit 3: Study a book and/or a film and/or a region of Spain.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have B grade in Spanish GCSE.  Students may be considered with C grades under certain circumstances.

Assessment

First year for the AS:

Unit 1: Spoken expression and response in Spanish. (30% of AS mark and 15% of overall A-LEVEL mark.)

Unit 2: Understanding and written response in Spanish. (70% of AS mark, 35% of total A-LEVEL mark)

Second year for A-Level:

Unit 3: Understanding and spoken response in Spanish. (17.5% of total A-LEVEL mark.)

Unit 4: Research, understanding and written response in Spanish. (32.5% of total A-LEVEL mark.)

Future opportunities

With a qualification in Spanish you could go on to Further or Higher Education, studying Spanish by itself or combined it with another subject (Spanish and Law or Spanish and Politics or Spanish and Business are common ones).It is now very much recommended for a career in business, travel and tourism or any other job with an international dimension.
