Beauty Therapy - Massage Route Advanced Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This specialist VRQ route is an excellent way for you to perfect a range of advanced massage techniques. It is aimed at learners who have already achieved an intermediate beauty therapy qualification and who now want to concentrate on developing massage skills.

Course content

The units you will cover include:
  • Body Massage
  • Facial Electrotherapy
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Body Electrotherapy and Epilation
  • Health and Safety
  • Client Communication

There is also a range of optional units, about which our beauty team will give you advice.

Additional units

We also offer high achievers the option to complete courses in:

  • Hot Stone Massage
  • Semi Permanent Lashes
You will also develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.

Entry requirements

Learners are expected to have completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy and to have GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English or Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2.


You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation, written review tests, a final online test, assignments and preparing a portfolio of evidence.  Assessment is on-going throughout the year on paying clients.

Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Further study
You could consider a Level 4 programme on which you will further your professional knowledge and techniques as well as continuing to develop your skills in maths and English.
You can advance your career in beauty salons and health spas or on cruise liners.
