Course description

This course is an ideal introduction to the main study areas of music. If you are considering a career in music and have an interest in either performance or music technology, then this course could be a good starting point for you. We aim to enable you to develop your own musical interests, or progress to higher level study.

Course content

As a one year course it will improve your practical skills and theoretical knowledge in many areas of music. To gain the most from your time here you will require focus, dedication and a commitment to produce your best work consistently. Successful completion of this course will provide a solid foundation and a perfect launch-pad for the next step in your career in the music industry.

On our course you will learn how to rehearse effectively and put on your own gigs. You will acquire the skills to create your own music using industry standard software. You will learn the language of music in Music Theory classes to underpin your practical skills. You will also investigate how the Music Business works and make a plan to secure your place in it.

  • English*

* If you have not already achieved a GCSE pass at grade C or above in English and Maths you will study Maths and/ or English as an integral part of your college programme.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade D or above including one in English or maths

Relevant Level 1 qualification with GCSE/Level 1 in English & maths.

In addition you must pass an audition. Please note that performance is an essential part of the course. We advise music technologists and vocalists to learn basic keyboard skills in order to practically enhance their understanding of music theory.
