Course description

Health and Social Care is one of the most successful vocational courses that the school offers. It has oustanding outcomes and progression onto university, apprenticeships and employment.

Course content

Coursework:

You must complete eighteen units of coursework. These will cover a variety of topics including biology, psychology, sociology, childcare, care of the elderly, health and working in the health or social care sector.


Work Experience:

You must complete at least 100 hours of work experience in 3 or more settings. These could include a nursery or primary school, a dentist or optician. You could choose to work with children with additional needs or with a physiotherapist or complementary therapist. You could also look at a care home for older people.

 

 

 

 

Entry requirements

Ideally students wishing to study this course should have achieved a grade C in GCSE English.

Assessment

Completion of course work and 100 hours minimum of work experience.

Progression in to Year 13

Can lead to careers in:

Why study this course?

This course is an extended diploma. It is equivalent to 3 ‘A’ Levels and allows you to study a wide variety of topics. It provides opportunities to develop research and presentation skills. You can attend a variety of different work placements to help you decide on a career and enhance your UCAS personal statement. You will also be able to do a First Aid course.

Skills Required:

Organisation, ability to meet deadlines, ability to research and to form good relationships with people.
