Course description



The qualification you'll earn from this course is essential for anyone wishing to work as a registered home based childcarer. Covering topics such as health and safety, children's learning and development, day to day care routines and play, and the legislation and regulation relating to home based childcare, you'll learn everything you need to prepare you to set up a home based childcare business of your own, or to work in a home based childcare setting, for example as a childminding assistant, a nanny or an au pair. You’ll work through this course using the NEC Laser: an online learning system that makes completing your course – submitting your work, doing activities and getting feedback – straightforward and enjoyable. The system is easy to use and all the work you complete is recorded in your learner profile, forming an online portfolio.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you will need to be at least 16 years of age and ideally have some experience of childcare. This is an online course. You will need easy access to the internet and to be competent working with electronic documents.


You will create an online portfolio of evidence using different formats such as learning plans, written tasks, and discussion.

Financial information



It’s your choice: pay in full and discount your course fees, or spread the cost and pay in instalments. To pay in instalments, you will need to enrol by telephone.


Finance is not available for this course, however we can arrange for you to pay half of the course fees on enrolment, and the other half one month following.

NEC will register you for this qualification with the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education (CACHE).The £30 registration fee is not included in your course fee and will need to be paid in addition at the time of enrolment.
