Physical Education A Level at Hammersmith Academy

Course description

The course builds upon prior learning at GCSE with a 60% theory and 40% practical workload.

The course focuses on developing students’ knowledge and skills in three key areas: the coach, the performer and the official. These roles form the foundations for the practical aspects of the course and provide the focus for the delivery of its theory. The course is well balanced and tailored to careers in the sport industry; it’s practically challenging, whilst retaining all of its academic rigour.

Physical Education also combines well with a range of A Level subjects. Studied alongside Biology, it supports applications for a wide range of university courses such as Sports Science, Physiotherapy and Leisure Studies. It also supports those considering a career in the Emergency or Armed Services, Teaching, Nursing and Management.

Entry requirements

Eight or more GCSEs at grades A*–C including English and Maths, as well as a minimum grade B in Science and Physical Education.
