Course content

AS Comp1: Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise • Fundamentals of: Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation • The System Development Lifecycle Comp 2: Computer Components, The Stored Program Concept and the Internet • Fundamentals of Computer Systems and the Hardware Elements of Computers • The Structure of the Internet • Web Page Design • Consequences of Uses of Computing A2 Comp 3: Problem Solving, Programming, Operating Systems, Databases and Networking • Problem Solving • Programming Concepts • Real Numbers • Operating Systems • Databases • Communication and Networking Comp 4: The Computing Practical Project - This is where you will develop a system for a real end user. The aim of the project is to test your knowledge by developing an integrated system which will develop and enrich your programming skills and provide you with in depth knowledge of the software development lifecycle. This project provides an excellent introduction to University style assessments.

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE Mathematics. Grade C in GCSE Computing if taken.

Financial information

Pupils will be expected to buy the text book for the AS course in year 12 and the A2 course in year 13. The approximate cost of this is £18.00

Future opportunities

Computer Science students have gone on to study Computer Science, Animation, Economics, Robotics, Physics, Engineering and Forensics at various Universities throughout the country. In addition some students have been successful in securing a place on an apprenticeship program.
