Physical Education A Level at Brookfield Community School
The course will allow students who enjoy sport and sporting activities to increase their physical competence, develop their involvement and effectiveness in physical activity, whilst pursuing an academic course they enjoy and to which they can relate.
AS Level Unit One 60% of AS or 30% of full A Level
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Acquiring Movement Skills
- Socio-Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity
Unit Two (Practical) 40% of AS or 20% of full A Level
- This consists of actively engaging in two practical activities and developing observation and analysis skills
Unit Three 35% of full A Level
- Comparative Studies
- Sports Psychology
- Exercise and Sport Physiology
Unit Four (Practical) 15% of full A Level
This consists of actively engaging in one practical activity and further developing observation and analysis skills.
In order to be successful in this course, you will need to have achieved at least a C in GCSE PE. Students with a Distinction in Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Sport will be considered on a case by case basis.
Unit One—This is assessed by a 2 hour written paper
Unit Two—Practical ability is continually teacher assessed and videoed, with formal moderation taking place during the Spring. An oral assessment will take place on your ability to observe, analyse and plan improvement for a live performance.
Unit Three—This is assessed by a 2 hour 30 minutes written paper.
Unit Four—Continual teacher assessment occurs, with formal moderation taking place during the Spring. An oral assessment will take place on your ability to observe, analyse and plan improvement for a live performance.
Physical Education would be useful for any sport-related courses in Higher or Further Education, but also as a general qualification towards university entry.
