Physical Education A level at Friesland School

Course description

Students follow the AQA syllabus at both A/S and A2 level. The two year course will provide students with the appropriate requirements needed for studying sport at university. Most of our A Level students have gone on to Higher Education and pursue a career within the Sport and Leisure industry; doing a job that they really enjoy, working as a physiotherapist, as a fitness instructor, PE teacher …… the list is endless!


Course content

You will have 4 teachers – all EXPERTS in their own areas!

•  Skill Acquisition

•  Applied Exercise Physiology

•  Opportunities for Participation

•  Practical and Application of Theory

You will have 1 lesson per week with each teacher on their specialist aspect of PE and one practical lesson.

The practical is assessed in 2 activities from a choice of  performer, official or coach.

ANY sport with a national governing body can be assessed and the same sport can be used for 2 DIFFERENT roles, or 2 sports in any role.

All practical is filmed for moderation purposes.

Practical - 40% of AS Marks

                    20% at A2 Marks

60% of AS Level will be assessed by a two hour theory paper. 40% of AS marks will be practical based (with 2 roles worth 20% each).

At A2 the same allocation of marks for theory and practical (one practical role and analysis of performance coursework).

Entry requirements

GCSE PE Grade C essential and grade B desirable.
