Government and Politics A Level at The Rochester Grammar School
The Government and Politics specification has been designed to provide a balanced education in politics for students.
The course encompasses aspects of Britsh politics, such as constitution and the roles of parliament and the Prime Minister. Students will also look to grasp the more theoretical aspects of the subject, examining core concepts such as democracy and ideological perspectives such as conservatism, liberalism, socialism and feminism. Students will also study the Politics of the USA, which, with a Trump presidency, will be an extremely interesting to say the least.
A grade 6 / B in a Humanities subject is required for entry onto this course, and an interest in current affairs and debating is very useful.
In order to gain access to The RGS Sixth Form, students must obtain 5 GCSE grades 9-6 (A*-B) including English Language and Mathematics.
There are three examined units. Please see the prospectus for full details.
This subject links very well to a number of subjects and combinations of subjects. In particular there are obvious links with Economics, History, English and Languages. Many Key Skills can be developed and assessed through this subject including ICT, communication (discussion and presentation) and working with others on various group projects.
This course would be useful for a wide variety of careers. These include journalism, the law, business, civil service, local government and parliament.
