For this Certificate you will study the following Units, which will prepare you for specialisation in Mechanical or Electrical Electronic Extended Diploma in Advanced Engineering

Unit 2 Communications
Unit 3 Mathematics
Unit 7 Engineering Materials
Unit 8 Mechanical Principles
Unit 11 Hydraulics & Pneumatics
Unit 12 Engineering Drawing
Unit 23 Electronic Devices
Unit 56 Electrical Principles

Entry requirements

Four GCSE’s including, English and two sciences at grade 4 and maths at grade 5.

Assessment

All units in this qualification are internally assessed and subject to external standards
verification.

The qualification and units are graded Pass/Merit/Distinction.
 

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course.

Further study 

Progress to the second year of either Mechanical or Electrical Extended Diploma in Advanced Engineering.

Career Opportunities

Completion of this course will enable you to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship. You could also apply for a wide range of highly skilled jobs as a technician engineer in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering or in the manufacturing industry.

      The Castleford Campus (previously known as the skillsXchange) houses the College’s provision in Construction, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Hair and Beauty, IT and some Care and replaces the training which was previously offered at the College’s Whitwood Campus.

      Located at Junction 32 of the M62 between Castleford and Pontefract, the site is well known for Xscape, the indoor ski slope whose building houses a 14-screen cinema, bowling alley, climbing wall, sports facilities and restaurants. The Campus is situated directly next to the Asda in Glasshoughton.


      A learning resource centre, equipped with the very latest in technology, is a superb place for individual study, or to relax and use the internet. The Centre overlooks the large external courtyard, where students can mix, mingle and chill.

      In state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons, including a nail bar, we are training the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians. These professional salons offer live training environments to our students, with treatments for both men and women available at affordable prices. There are also industry standard facilities for the study of construction and engineering, motor vehicle and electrical courses.
