Childcare (Children and Young People's Workforce) Apprenticeship (Advanced) Level 3 at College of West Anglia

Course description

The course is aimed at people who are employed in a suitable childcare (early years) setting. For example, this could be within a Nursery, Pre-school or Playgroup etc. Subjects studied will include: helping keep children safe supporting children's development support children's play and learning prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs. Planning and implementing curriculum frameworks for early years' education.

Entry requirements

An interview is required. You must have already gained your GCSE C grade or higher in English and mathsto commence on this award. To be a childcare advanced apprentice you have to be aged 16 and over. A level 2 qualification in childcare and childcare work experience is required. A supervisory role within employment is preferred ie working on own initiative, planning and organising work and/or supervising others. Possible job roles may include - nursery nurse, playgroup leader or room leader, etc. At the start of your apprenticeship programme you will need to be employed by a suitable and appropriate employer for at least 30 hours per week. You will also need to have been a resident in the EU for at least 3 years, not have a level 4 or higher qualification and not be on any other government funded training programme. Commitment and motivation are necessary to complete the course. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, (4 points and above) must include two from English language, maths or science or a full level 2 qualification (minimum of merit level) and at least a grade D in English language or maths and a grade C in the other.


You will build a portfolio of evidence and will be assessed in the workplace using a range of methods, for example written assignments, case study work, reflective accounts and practical observation etc. An Assessor will visit you in the workplace on a regular basis in order to support you. Functional Skills tuition and examinations will take place at college various campuses depending on your location.
