You should have an interest in developing broad skills, knowledge and understanding based on the practical needs and concerns of the performing arts industry. This is a vocational qualification which will make demands on your body and your brain. You will learn everything there is to know about the performing arts business, exploring and developing your performance skills, learning how to organise and put on a show from behind the scenes and presenting your own performance to an invited audience.

Course content

In year one you will be required to complete seven assignments. The course is designed so that the evidence can overlap and you may be working towards one performance which will satisfy more than one criteria for assessment. You will be focusing on different Practitioners which will aid your understanding in the Musical Theatre, Singing, Acting and Dance styles. You will begin by gaining skills to be able to use in devising your own performance work and you will work together as a theatre company to rehearse, organise and promote your own shows.

In year two you will be required to complete six assignments. The course is designed so that the evidence can overlap and you may be working towards one performance which will satisfy more than one criteria for assessment. You will be developing the performance skills you gained on how you promote yourself with the use of CV, show reels and portfolios. You will begin by gaining skills to be able to use in devising your own performance work and you will work together as a theatre company to rehearse, organise and promote your own shows.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs, at Grades A* - C/4 – 9, including English Language, from a mixture of GCSEs and equivalents.

Assessment

The course is assessed through performance, portfolio, and BTDA Jazz, Ballet and Tap exams.

Future opportunities

The National Extended Diploma is the equivalent of a 3 A levels and can lead to further study in Drama, Theatre Studies, Dance and Performing Arts in Higher Education at Degree or HND level. It can be used as part of your course to broaden your studies and may lead on to a career in the performing arts industries
