Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy - Framework, Routes, General and Make Up at Cambridge Regional College

Course description

This course is designed to give you a great start to your career. Apprenticeships offer the opportunity for practical experience and training whilst earning a wage and working towards industry-recognised qualifications. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group. This Level 2 enhanced vocational programme covers the basics of beauty skills and is suitable for those working and training to become junior beauty therapists.

The Framework is made up of the following components.  In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.  The programme is practically based and structured so that the underpinning theory is delivered alongside the relevant practical work.

The full NVQ Level 2 Beauty qualification consists of mandatory units and optional units that link to the different routes.
The 3 routes which you can choose from are as follows:
• General
• Make-Up
• Nails

Level 1 English
Level1 Maths

This is an assignment based project


You will need a salon uniform and will be advised with regard to the kit required.  There will also be a £35 fee to cover trips and activities.

Entry requirements

This Level 2 qualification is for people who wish to start a career in beauty.  To enrol, you MUST be employed over 30 hours per week in a Beauty salon. Please contact us should you need help in finding suitable employment. Your clientele should provide you with the opportunities for the Level 2 beauty services and skills.   Entry onto the L2 Apprenticeship Framework or standard requires 2 x D Grades / 2 x Grade 3 or above in Maths and English.We currently offer pre apprenticeship courses for applicants, in Maths and English, to support learners wishing improve their grades to the entry criteria. Learners should have secured employment.All applicants will be interviewed- this includes maths and English skills scan, a trade test and a formal interview


Learners will be assessed mainly in the workplace or our modern CRC beauty Salons, using a variety of methods including observation, practical assessments, questioning, professional discussions, producing an eportfolio of competence-based evidence which will include witness testimonials, candidate statements, and photographic evidence. Candidates are also required to sit online examinations in College.

The programme provides you with a Level 2 qualification and the skills necessary for your career in Beauty Therapy  It will enable you to develop your expertise in the salon and progress onto a Level 3 programme to develop your creative and technical skills further.
