BTEC Level 3 Certificate / Subsidiary Diploma in Dance at Thomas Rotherham College (TRC)

Course description

This is a vocational course with a strong emphasis on practical work. You will study a range of dance styles and creative approaches such as contemporary/jazz and commercial dance as well as increasing your knowledge of safe practice, the performing arts industry, practitioners and live performance.

Year 1:


• Developing Movement Skills
• Developing Contemporary Dance Technique
• Dance Performance


Year 2:


• Movement in Performance
• Applying Contemporary Dance Technique
• Performing to an Audience


Study Visits/Costs

TRC organises exciting opportunities for you to work with performers from professional companies and to go and watch live performances. This is a mandatory part of the course and it is essential you take part in each event. The cost is usually no more than £15 per event.

Entry requirements

You will need to achieve the general entry requirements for Level 3 study as well as having some experience of practical dance (through private lessons or dance study at Level 2). All learners applying for this course should be participating in private dance lessons in order to make the necessary practical progress.

Assessment

All assessment will be based on practical assessments and written coursework. Your practical coursework will be a combination of performance work, assessed techniques classes, choreography tasks and collaborative team-work. Your written coursework will be a combination of research tasks, reports, and evaluations.

    • The College is situated on Moorgate in Rotherham, about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Rotherham.  Buses leave the central Rotherham Interchange every 10 minutes and the journey takes approx. 5 minutes. 

      We also run dedicated bus services to ease your journey to and from College.  See www.thomroth.ac.uk for details and route information. 

      The College also has on-site permit parking for students, with priority given to students with the greatest distance to travel.
