Course description

This qualification is for Post 16 students who want to start a career in digital technology. It is an ideal qualification for students who want to progress directly to employment in digital technology or IT, or to an IT apprenticeship. The qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the IT sector. This means that it will enable students to develop the skills and behaviours that give them the best opportunity to be successful in applying for work. All units are mandatory and relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the IT sector. The areas students will cover include: creating digital multichannel applications understanding IT network features and functions, common practices in network security, and the function and features of the main network appliances IT service solutions and the issues encountered in IT solutions in an organisation setting up new equipment and upgrading existing systems providing digital content for organisations.

Entry requirements

At least 3 GCSE grades 9-3. English and Maths must be grade 2 or above.

Assessment

Two external assessments, which contribute to 33% of the total qualification. These assessments are a task and an onscreen test. All other units are assessed internally through coursework.
