Transition into Further Education at Leicester College

Course description

The course supports students to develop work skills, social skills and to gain maths and English qualifications. We provide the opportunities for you to increase your skills to enable you to progress to vocational courses, training or employment. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment and we aim to make the most of every student’s learning opportunities. It is important to us that students with disabilities, including learning disabilities, feel welcome and are supported throughout their time at College.

Course content

You will work towards improving your maths and English at a level that is right for you and you will also have the opportunity to develop ICT skills. You will take part in our work experience programme that will help you to make decisions for the future and build a CV. You will also be able to take part in sport, drama and multimedia activities.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to meet a member of staff for an interview where you will have the opportunity to talk about your future aspirations and any support needs. We will need to see your learning disability assessment or your education health and care plan (EHCP).

Future opportunities

At the end of the course you will be invited to a review where your progress and aspirations are discussed. You will have the opportunity to apply to a vocational course within the college that match your future aspirations or work based courses within supported learning that will help you to further develop your work experience and employability skills. Throughout your time on the course you will have regular opportunities to meet with your key worker to discuss additional support and development needs.

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.You will also be able to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
