Travel and Tourism BTEC Extended Diploma level 3 at Leicester College

Course description

This course is equivalent to 3 A levels and is the natural progression from the BTEC level 3 90 credit diploma. It is designed to provide you with the opportunity to study a further range of range of travel and tourism subjects to complement your existing knowledge and experience. The course includes a variety of enrichment opportunities including guest speakers, day trips and also residential trips which are all closely linked to the course content. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.

Course content

You will build on your knowledge gained on the 90 credit diploma and study further subjects over the course of this year-long programme such as long-haul destinations, specialist tourism, marketing, events and visitor attractions. Alongside this, you may have the opportunity to study cabin crew or resort representatives if this is a career path you are interested in pursuing.

Entry requirements

You will need to have successfully completed your BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Travel and Tourism and have demonstrated excellent attendance at 90% or above. You will also need to provide a reference. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above is required.


You will be assessed by assignment, live projects, presentations and displays.

Financial information

Material fee £40.00. The £250 residential fee will include a two night overseas residential trip and one other day trip. Students may be able to seek assistance with fees from Student Services, subject to conditions

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the programme will allow you to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management at Leicester or a degree programme at an alternative provider. Alternatively you could seek employment within the travel industry. We have very successful progression into employment with former students working for Swissport, Thomas Cook, Premier Inn and Jet2 Airlines.
