Site Carpentry Diploma level 2 at Leicester College
For those interested in a career as a tradesperson working with wood in the construction industry, this qualification is ideal for continuing to develop your skills and knowledge of site carpentry. You will learn about the industry, including the principles of constructing buildings, and about the types of information used in building design and construction. This course is designed to offer progression from the Carpentry and Joinery Diploma level 1 or equivalent and will allow students to further develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career as a site carpenter in the construction sector. You must supply safety footwear/clothing and an identified tool kit. Technical drawing equipment and stationery are also necessary. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
You will learn about health, safety and environmental issues faced on construction sites, and how to communicate with others on the job. You will also learn practical skills specific to site carpentry, including how to carry out first fix flooring and roofing, how to carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs, how to carry out second fixing operations, how to carry out carpentry maintenance, and how to set up and operate a circular saw
Standard entry to this course is one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 or above (D), plus an additional two GCSEs grade 3 (D) or above including a technology/design based subject. Consideration will be given to applicants over the age of 19 without formal English and maths qualifications.
You will be assessed by multiple choice question papers, covering knowledge outcomes. Practical assignments, covering performance outcomes. Both assessments are set by City & Guilds, delivered and marked by the tutor/assessor, and will be externally verified by City & Guilds to make sure they are properly carried out.
Material fee Â£115.00. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) plus an identified tool kit will require purchasing. Approximate combined cost of Â£125. Previous Leicester College students may only require a top-up tool kit at a reduced cost. Individuals will also require stationery.There is a materials fee applicable to this course. There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately Â£100.00.
This qualification helps prepare you for work in the construction industry specialising in the carpentry work area, with a specific focus on wood occupations. You are likely to progress on the a level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry, or progress on to study on an apprenticeship programme including level 2 NVQ.
