Public Services BTEC Diploma 90 Credit at East Sussex College

Course description

The BTEC 90 Credit Diploma in Uniformed Public Services prepares for entry to, and career progression in, a range of services including the Armed Forces, Police and Emergency and Rescue Services. Students will study 8 modules in their first year including politics, leadership, psychology,citizenship, physical training, , criminology, emergency incidents and outdoor activities. The units provide background knowledge and understanding essential for life in the public services. During the course students will be required to participate in visits to workplaces, residentials and expedition training which will involve overnight stays. There are lots of trips and visits on the course to gain first hand experience. If successful in the first year students go on to the BTEC Extended Diploma in the second year. So, across the two years students will achieve the equivalent of 3 A levels and up to 168 UCAS points.

You will need to meet our standard entry requirements.

You will need at least GCSE English Language grade C/4.


The course is continually assessed by a variety of methods which include written assignments and reports, practicals, simulations, role plays, presentations and posters. There are no formal examinations associated with this course but there is an on-going coursework requirement with formal deadlines which must be met.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to university, the police, armed forces (including direct officer entry), the emergency and rescue services, the merchant navy, offender management services and private and public security organisations.
