Course description

During the course you will be able to identify which sector of the care industry you'd like to explore further, whether that is health or child care.

Course content

During this one-year course you will be given a thorough introduction to the care sector. Our expert tutors will help you to explore what it is like to work in health and child care, helping you to decide which progression rout you’d like to take. You will discover what skills you will need to care for adults, young people, and people with disabilities. Through a range of creative activities you will also develop your own communication skills as well as identifying how to effectively communicate with other people. You will also improve your skills in English and maths throughout the year.

You will cover topics including:
* Care needs
* Healthy eating
* Communication skills
* Creative activities
* Health needs
* Individual rights and needs

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are needed to apply for this course.


You will be assessed by 100% coursework assignments which will include creating displays, making leaflets, posters, written essays and question-and-answer sessions.

Future opportunities

Once you have successfully completed this course you will have a much better idea about which sector of the care industry you would like to study and work in. You can progress onto our Level 2 Health and Social Care course or study our Level 2 Children and Young People's Workforce course.

With additional training you may work towards starting a career as a care support worker or individual needs worker.
