Level 3 Diploma in Sports Studies at East Sussex College
You will build on your knowledge from Level 2 to gain a more indepth understanding of the scientific principles and training methods within this exciting industry.
This two-year course will develop your existing knowledge of sport and prepare you for a career in the industry. You will learn a range of practical, theoretical and scientific modules giving you an in-depth look at sport and exercise. You will study the respiratory and circulatory systems, getting to know the organs of the human body, you will see these vital organs in action during fitness testing in our fully-equipped gym, and you be able to create your own fitness programme, taking into account everything from lifestyle to diet. Gaining an understanding of sports injuries and injury management will also form part of your learning.
During the course you will study a range of units including:
- Principles of Anatomy & Physiology in Sport
- Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
- Fitness Training and Programming
- Sports Nutrition
- Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
- Sports Coaching
- Sports Injuries
- Sport & Exercise Massage
You will study a total of 18 units in the two years which will be internally assessed through a variety of assessment methods including written reports and essays, presentations, and practical observations.
You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*-C including English and maths. Equivalent Qualifications may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
You will keep all of your assessments in a portfolio and will be able to track your own grade throughout the course. Because the course is equivalent to 3 A-levels you will be awarded an overall grade consisting of 3 grades, e.g., PPP, MMM or DDM.

Once you have completed the course you could progress onto University to study a range of sport-related disciplines, or you may choose to join one of our other sports industry related qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training or Level 3 Diploma in Preventing Injuries in Sport and Active Leisure.
With additional training you can start your career in the industry as a Sports coach, Personal trainer, Sport therapist, Youth worker, Sports scientist, Sports psychologist or Sports nutritionist
