Level 3 Diploma in Business at East Sussex College

Course description

During this two-year course you will develop an in depth knowledge of key elements of business, enterprise, and commerce.

Course content

Throughout the course you will learn key transferable skills that will be beneficial to you in the business world. During the first year you will learn how to plan, create and execute a marketing campaign, learn about the key elements of good customer service, and look into the finer details of personal and business finance. In the second year you will learn the principles of management, understand the decision making process in business and gain an insight into employment law. You will also complete a week long work placement during each year of your course, to build your practical experience in the industry. You will also have the opportunity to attend industry linked trips and professional visits to various organisations. Guest speakers will also play a part in bringing business theory to life.

By the end of the course you will be able to communicate effectively in different business environments and be comfortable working with others having completed team building activities and organised business events. You will have a good working knowledge of finance within business enterprise – including cost and management accounting, as well as experience of developing a marketing campaign and will have undertaken work experience.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of: 5 GCSE's A*- C including English and maths. Equivalent Qualifications may be considered in exceptional circumstances.


Your assessment will consist of coursework assignments, exams, and individual and group presentations.

Financial information

There will be a cost of approximately £185 which will cover the cost of books, resources and trips and visits to various trade fairs and industry linked organisations such as the World Travel Market. In addition you will be expected to provide your own smart business wear that you will have to wear at all times when in college and on some trips and visits. Your tutors will guide you on this and you will be given a uniform guide sheet at enrolment.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed both years of this course you have the opportunity to move onto higher level study at university, start an apprenticeship in a number of business disciplines, or into full-time employment.

Career opportunities could include working in banking, finance, accounting, law, local enterprise partnership employers, tourism, marketing or events management.

Further information

You will be expected to wear smart business wear for the duration of your course, both whilst you are in college and when you are on trips and visits, unless you are instructed otherwise by tutors.
