A-Level French at East Sussex College
During this two-year course you will improve your French while boosting your employability prospects with international organisations.
Over the two years you will be able to get a well-rounded and interesting look into France and its culture. You will broaden your vocabulary, along with the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills you have gained at GCSE, as well as gaining a range of transferable skills, including communication, critical thinking and creativity.
You will study topics including:
- The multicultural society
- Contemporary social issues
You will be well prepared to use the language for practical communication and to continue your studies. French is also a ‘gateway’ to other languages like Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, making them easier to learn.
To apply for this course you will need to meet the minimum requirements of 5 Grade 4 GCSEs (including Maths and English) and have a Grade 6 in GCSE French.
You will be assessed through regular feedback during the course, as well as by coursework assignments and exams.
There may be some additional costs during the course for trips and visits to further your learning.
This course would be good to study alongside other A-Level subjects such as Spanish, English Language, Business, or Economics, allowing for progression to university courses in French, International Business, or Internationals Relations.
You will also find that there are a number of career opportunities available for you, that require sharp language skills such as becoming a Translator, a Teacher, working in the Diplomatic service or Security service, becoming a Journalist, working in law or the Financial markets.
