Level 3 Food & Beverage Service Supervision at East Sussex College

Course description

During this one year course you will be able specialise and develop all the skills you need to progress your career in the Hospitality Industry in a Front of House role.

Course content

Over the course of the year you will build on the skills you have learned from previous study, and focus on the skills you will need to have a long and successful career in the industry. You will learn the importance of, and how to supervise safety in hospitality, you will develop leadership and supervisory qualities, gain a thorough understanding of food and drink business operations and gain experience in planning and delivering a hospitality event.

You will be able to practise these skills in our fully-equipped kitchens and fully-functioning restaurant at our Station Plaza campus.

  • Supervision of Safety in Hospitality
  • Leadership and Supervision in Hospitality
  • Principles of Food and Beverage Service Supervision
  • Food and Beverage Business Operations
  • Restaurant Reception Supervision
  • Planning and Delivering Hospitality Events

Entry requirements

To apply for this course you will need to have completed the Level 2 Culinary Skills qualification, or have obtained 5 A*-C GCSEs / Grade 4, including English and maths.

Assessment

There are three external assessments within this course which contribute to 50% of the qualification. The remaining units are assessed by assignments and assessments culminating and a final synoptic internal assessment where you will be asked to draw from you newly gained knowledge to plan, prepare and deliver a Hospitality event, such as an open day or restaurant service.

The units are graded Pass, Merit & Distinction contributing to an overall grading between PP & DD.

Financial information

During the course you will be required to wear a uniform, which will cost approximately £220. You may also have the opportunity to visit a number of catering and cooking events which may incur additional costs.

Future opportunities

Once you have completed this course you will be in an excellent position for further training or study on our Level 4 qualification in Hospitality Management. You may also start your career in the industry in a number of roles including; Restaurant Supervisor, Bar Supervisor, or Maitre D or Host/Hostess.
