A-Level Textiles at East Sussex College
During this two-year course you will be encouraged to explore a range of textile techniques so that you can develop these products into something suitable for fashion or interiors.
This course is ideal if you are a creative, visual, and enjoy designing and physically making things.
You will undertake a series of projects which are initiated with drawing and then progress to creating samples that demonstrate various processes in print and constructed textiles. You will develop your skills, research, and understanding of the subject that will help you form a clear idea of where your strengths, passions, and interests lie.
You will learn a range of traditional and contemporary textile techniques such as:
* Materials and components
* Design and market influenced
* Process and manufacturing
* Surface pattern and decoration
* Working properties of fibres
* Fabric manipulation
* Hand and machine embroidery
* Industrial and commercial practice
To apply for this course you will need to meet the minimum requirements of 5 Grade 4 GCSEs (including Maths and English).
You will be assessed on your ability to develop ideas, experiment with relevant materials, your techniques and processes, and ability to present a personal, informed, and meaningful response to subject briefs.
Extra costs may be necessary for specialist equipment and materials and for the final exhibition of your work.
Once you have successfully completed this course you can progress onto university to study the subject in more detail, or choose to specialise in other art based subject such as Fine Art or Craft.
You may also decide to start your career in the industry as a commercial artist, a designer, a fashion stylist, or a fashion merchandiser.
