Food Service & Cookery Studies Level 2 at North Kent College

Course description

This qualification is specifically for those learners committed to a career in the hospitality industry but who have not yet made up their mind whether to work in food and beverage service or professional cookery. This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills of learners across the breadth of hospitality. By including a range of optional units learners can select those that will give them the knowledge and skills needed to meet the needs of local employers, reflect the types of businesses within the locality as well as allow learners to broaden their skills and knowledge 
The course consists of a minimum of 11 units, all of which are taught in a practical context. You will also study functional skills in numeracy and literacy, attend tutorials and have invaluable work experience in our contemporary restaurant and refectory 
This programme will use a variety of assessment methods which will include periodic skills tests, short answer questions, and assignment work. Your work is graded pass, merit and distinction, and you will be able to track your performance as you work towards the qualification. There will also be classroom activity, online learning, visits and assignments to supplement learning. Your studies will culminate in a set of final practical tests which will count towards a large proportion of your final grading. 

Entry requirements

Successful completion of the Level 1 Professional Cookery programme, a satisfactory school report or reference. GCSEs at D Grades or above, preferably with English and Maths are desirable.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods which will include periodic skills tests, short answer questions, and assignment work. Will culminate in a set of final practical tests which will count towards a large proportion of your final grading.

19+ - £1650

Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £90 

Other Costs (payable by all students): £45 Material fee contribution and £15 Trip

Future opportunities

Successful completion at a satisfactory grade could enable progression onto Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery/Service Supervision. There are also opportunities to be employed in the industry and continue your studies on an Advanced Apprenticeship programme
