ESOL with Vocational Pathways Entry 3 (City) at Sheffield College
This is an ESOL course with an opportunity to try out different vocational areas. It is suitable for ESOL students assessed at Entry 3 in their English.
It is an intensive English course covering the main areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. It will help students learn and use key vocabulary and grammatical structures and to apply them in everyday situations. In addition students will study maths and IT.
The course is classroom based working in groups. Our staff are supportive, friendly and experienced in working with young learners recently arrived in the UK or with those who have little previous experience of English Language learning.
At City students will be able to choose options in the following vocational areas construction trades, hair and beauty, health and care, science, animal care, IT, travel and tourism.
Will this course suit me?
These courses are aimed at 16-18 year olds with little previous experience of English Language or those whose English is a barrier to further academic or vocational progression.
Trinity Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life.
Students are required to attend an assessment at College or school to help determine the correct level for them.
The course is assessed by exam. Students are examined separately for Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing. Students must successfully complete all three parts to progress onto the next level or onto a vocational course.
At The Sheffield College we will always do our best to support you through your studies, to make them as stress free as possible. We have a specialist support team who can give you all the advice you need on all things financial, including what might be available to you, so that you don’t go short and you can concentrate all your efforts into your studies.
If you meet the eligibility criteria we’ll be able to support you with free meals. You’ll get an amount of money that you can use within the college shops and diners per day. This will be added to your student ID card which you will just swipe to purchase items.
Students (including Apprentices) of The Sheffield College who live in South Yorkshire are eligible for a 16–18 Student Pass which entitles pass holders to cheaper travel on buses and trams in South Yorkshire. Pass holders are also entitled to half fare on Northern train services in South Yorkshire.

- NUS extra
- DBS checks needed for your course (previously known as CRB)
- UCAS registration fee and travel to interviews when applying for university
Students will be able to progress onto an entry level or level 1 vocational course.
Alternatively they can continue to consolidate their English Language skills at level 1 and level 2 enabling them to enter a vocational course at a higher level.
