French Level 3 at LAT16 Wilmington Academy

Course description

The French GCE courses focus on language learning and developing cultural understanding.

To enhance linguistic skills and promote and develop students’ capacity for critical thinking on the basis of their knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the countries where the language is spoken. Students will also develop their knowledge about matters central to the society and culture, past and present, of the countries where the language is spoken.

Course content

AS Level:

Topic 1 – Aspects of French – speaking society: current trends.

Topic 2 – Artistic culture in the French – speaking world.

Topic 3 – Study of a French film.

A Level:

Topic 1 - Aspects of French – speaking society: current issues.

Topic 2 – Aspects of political life in the French – speaking world.

Topic 3 – Study of a French literary text.

Topic 4 – Individual research project.

 

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 9-4 grades in GCSE examinations including English and Maths. French to at least grade 6.

 

Assessment

This course equips students with transferable skills such as autonomy, resourcefulness, creativity, critical thinking and linguistic, cultural and cognitive flexibility that will enable them to proceed to further study or employment. It will also foster their ability to learn other languages. Having a qualification in a foreign language will make individuals more competitive in the workplace.
