Health and Social Care : Level 3 Diploma (2 A Levels) at WQE

Course description

This course really focuses on the vocational aspects of Health & Social Care so you will find a lot of teaching is based in work experience/placement visits or case studies and role plays. There will also be group discussions, presentations, guest speakers, creation of resources, individual research, and so on. You will undertake a work experience placement where you will be able to apply some of the knowledge gained in lessons. Throughout the course you will develop various skills including research, ICT, analytical skills, problem solving, developing your own learning, presentation skills, and learning to work independently as well as in groups, which will develop your communication skills. This course will provide you with an up to date and relevant insight into the world of Health and Social Care and will prepare you well for a career in the field.

Course content

All students take eight core units including:

• Building positive relationships in Health and Social Care
• Equality, diversity and rights in Health and Social Care
• Health, safety and security in Health and Social Care
• Anatomy and physiology for Health and Social Care
• Infection control
• Personalisation and a person centred approach to care
• Safeguarding • The impact of longterm physiological conditions

You will also take optional units selected by subject staff.

Entry requirements

In addition to the standard College entry requirements this course requires students to have achieved grade 3 or above in GCSE Science or GCSE Physical Education.


Students will be assessed by a mixture of assignments and written exams .

Future opportunities

Level 3 courses earn you UCAS points allowing you to take on HND/ HNC or honours degrees. Students can go in to careers such as nursing, teaching, midwifery, social work and many more.
