This course will give you a solid grounding in business skills, if you are interested in any kind of business career or hope to run your own business.You'll get the opportunity to set up and run your own business, selling a product that you have created. You will learn to cope with change, how to remain competitive, and discover how outside factors such as new technologies, consumer trends, environmental issues or globalisation can affect a business.At the heart of the course are your core business, enterprise and finance subjects. These will teach you the main things you need to know about the sectors. You'll learn about the issues that are affecting business today, how it works and what skills you need to have.These are just some examples of the kind of learning you'll be doing:Business organisationsYou'll learn about the structure of business organisations and the processes involved in planning, setting up, running and closing a business venture, the role of the entrepreneur and the importance of innovation and creativity in business. You could, for example, develop an idea for a new product or service, draw up a business start-up and implementation plan, present it to investors, sell your product or service and then close the business.MarketingYou will explore how different types of organisations use marketing principles to meet the needs of customers and achieve their organisational objectives. You will also study the laws which govern the activities of marketers and protect consumers. You will also look at the targeting and segmentation of customers, which are key marketing techniques.During the two year course you will study a minimum of 18 units covering a broad range of business subjects.
External ApplicantsYou will need:
- GCSE English at Grade 5 (C)
- At least 4 more GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or higher, including Maths
- Level 2 Business at a Distinction
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including either/or English and Maths
- A relevant Level 2 qualification can count towards the GCSEs
Continuous assessment consisting of projects and assignments will form the overall assessment scheme for this programme.This is a two-year programme and extended diploma courses have three achievement points. You will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will have the opportunity to work towards either the diploma or the extended diploma in the second year.
