Course description

Overview.The Media Level 3 Extended Diploma in Digital Media is designed with the workplace in mind and provides a high quality alternative to A Levels. The course will encourage you to investigate a wide range of media productions within the industry. You will be encouraged to research and develop your own skills and techniques relevant to a successful career within the professional working environment. You will learn through lectures, workshops and a variety of assignment briefs that are designed to encourage your personal development. You will use professional equipment and experience high level work experience with a variety of clients and projects. Industry experts will also enhance your industrial experience.What is covered.In the first year of your programme of study, you will study a range of units including: >Advertising Media>TV and short Film production>Create a digital animation>Create audio-visual promos Some of the 2nd year units will include: >Interactive Media Product>Visual and special effects>Cinematography and Social Media and globalisationYou will be using a variety of software including the Adobe CC suite, Premiere, Animate and Audition. You will study in a professional environment that include a fully equipped TV Studio and audio-recording studios and a range of portable recording equipment. You will also undertake your English and math as well as develop a variety of IT skills that will aid your progression into industry.Assessment method.You will complete written and practical work throughout the 2 year programme of study, allowing you to research and understand good working practices whilst allowing you the opportunity to develop your own skills and techniques. There are 2 externally assessed units within each year of your programme of study.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths at grade C/4 or above.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of your Level 3 Technical qualification in Digital Media can lead to a wide range of university degree courses, an apprenticeship or traineeship within the industry, or, direct entry into the industry or associated industries.All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

Further information

We recommend you equip yourself with a good set of headphones to help with various parts of the course as well as a pen and pad for note taking and lecture notes. It is advisable that you sign up to Vimeo and YouTube if you don’t already have accounts with these platforms.
