Course description

Overview.Our Level 2 Maintenance Operations (multitrades) is one of the fastest growing sectors in the South East. You will enjoy learning theory and practical skills needed to provide you with a fantastic range of skills that will prepare you for your career in the construction industry. You will train in modern, fully-equipped workshops, using the same machinery and tools you can expect to use in the workplace. This course is ideal for students who are not sure which trade to go into.What is covered.You will study a range of units with topics including: >health safety and welfare in construction>principles of building construction>information and communication>completing small scale building repairs>completing small scale painting and decorating repairs>completing small scale plastering repairs>completing carpentry repairThese modules will help you form a wide range of skills in demand with local employers to improve your chances of gaining employment within the industry.Assessment method.You will complete written and practical work throughout the year.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, including English or maths at grade D/3 or above.

Future opportunities

You could progress into an apprenticeship, into work or a higher level programme to specialise in a particular trade.

Further information

You will need to purchase College overalls, available at a discounted price through our uniform partners. You will also need to purchase protective boots.All MidKent College students will continue studying English and maths until they are 19, or until they have achieved a Grade C/4. Your study programme will incorporate a Work Placement of up to 350 hours in a role relevant to your study. All students will have access to a Personal Tutor to support their personal and professional development.

    • Set in the Oakwood Park complex, MidKent College's Maidstone Campus provides a pleasant learning environment for students. The site houses a range of quality workshops – including those for Bricklaying, Carpentry, Motor Vehicle and Welding – as well as a large learning resource centre, refectory and welcoming social zone.

      In 2012 major redevelopment work costing a total of £25 million started at the Maidstone Campus, with new state-of-the-art facilities expected to be open by December 2013.

      As part of the rebuild MidKent College has purchased the University for the Creative Arts' Maidstone campus, which is also based at Oakwood Park and now houses the majority of the College's higher education courses.
