Course description

Is this subject right for me?

Do you enjoy Science but  want to take a more practical and vocational approach? Applied Science BTEC could be the course for you.  BTEC level 3 qualifications are equivalent  to A-Levels and are awarded the same points as A-Levels.   BTEC qualifications are also recognised and valued by employers.  Applied Science BTEC can be studied alongside other 

BTEC courses or A-Level subjects.


The Applied  Science course brings together knowledge and understanding  with practical and technical skills.




Course content

What will I study?

There are three mandatory  units:

· Principals of Applied Science 1

· Practical Scientific procedures and techniques

· Science Investigating skills

One optional unit


Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

Combined Science  grade 5–5  or Triple Sciences, grade 5, 5, 5.  English and Mathematics grade 5

What Next?

Today’s BTEC Nationals are demanding.  You will have to complete a range of units, be organised, take some assessments that are set and marked externally, and keep a portfolio of your assignments.  You can feel proud to achieve a BTEC because, whatever your plans in life – whether you decide to study further, go on to work or an apprenticeship, or set up your own business – your BTEC will be your passport to success in the next stage of your life.

This BTEC course promotes transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are valued in both higher education and the workplace.
