Art & Design at The Whitstable School

Course description

This BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design is equivalent to two A Levels. The course equips students with in-depth knowledge into a wide selection of areas within the creative fields of Fine Art, Design and Textiles. The course structure can allow the qualification to be flexible to meet learners’ interests, abilities and aspirations.

Course content

For the BTEC Level 3 Diploma, there are five mandatory units, plus six optional units from a range of professional specialist areas including Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles and Photography..

The essential elements of the course give students a comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of Art and Design – techniques and materials, concepts and influences, visual recording and communication – which allow them to eventually specialise in an area of their choice.

 

 

Entry requirements

Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programmes.

Art or Design grade 5 or above

Assessment

Four units are externally assessed over the 2 years, the rest is coursework. The points achieved on each unit will be added together to form an overall grade.
