Animal Management Extended Diploma Level 3 Year 1 at Canterbury College

Course description

This course will give you the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of animal management in different environments and habitats. You will get hands-on experience in our Animal Centre and be taught in the classroom.

Course content

Anatomy and physiology, animal biology, practical animal handling, animal health and welfare, animal nursing, management of animal collections, behaviour, nutrition, business management, kennel and cattery management, grooming parlour management, care of exotics, breed development and welfare, wildlife rehabilitation, aquatics, breeding and genetics, and work experience.

Entry requirements

You should have at least 4 GCSEs at C (including Maths, English and Science), or a Level 2 Diploma (Distinction) or equivalent. Entry onto the course is subject to an interview.


A variety of methods including practical assessments, a work experience log book, investigation reports, short tests and written assignments.

Future opportunities

Students can progress on to an HND or BSc (Hons) at Canterbury College, university or employment.
